First Line Friday #13

Another Friday! Readers, I hope you have a great weekend with your favorite books.  August is halfway over already! Next week, I’m sending out my newsletter, but for now I’m sharing a first line from one of my favorite authors, Julie Lessman.

Note: Links in this post may include affiliate links which provide me with a small commission at no expense to you.

I couldn’t wait for this final book in the Isle of Hope series to come out. His Steadfast Love met and exceeded all of my expectations. If you want to see the rest of my thoughts, check out my review.

About the Book

She’s bent on fun.
He’s bent on faith.
Till true love bridges the gap.

Cat O’Bryen is the prodigal daughter unhappy with God. First, the father with whom she reconciled dies of cancer and now her twin sister and best friend marries, leaving Cat at home with a newlywed mother, her new husband, and a little brother. But when Cat moves in with a roommate of questionable morals, her family is worried, certain she’s on a path that could damage her faith forever.

Reluctant to get involved with a woman like the one who destroyed his life, ex-Navy SEAL Pastor Chase Griffin steers clear of the attraction he feels for Cat O’Bryen. Until her family begs him to take her under his wing, hoping he can draw her back into the fold. But when the draw she has on him proves too strong to resist, he must rely on the strength of God to offer a friendship as steady and strong as the God whose love is wooing her home.

First Line

“The winds of change are blowing…and it’s a category five. Catherine ‘Cat’ O’ Bryen plopped her chin in her hand on the linen-clad table, grateful for the low lighting of the candlelit ballroom while she battled another onslaught of tears.”

I keep meaning to read one of Julie’s books, but haven’t gotten around to it yet. I must fix that!

I’ve got the first line from “Chasing Secrets” by Lynette Eason on the blog today, but I’ve just finished reading “A Rose So Fair” by Myra Johnson, so I’m going to share the first line from that here:

“Now just you hold it right there, mister.” Rose Linwood sighted her unwelcome visitor down the length of Grandpa’s trusty Winchester.

    She’s a spunky one!

Sounds spunky! I haven’t read either of those authors, but I’ll have to soon!

  2. Becky Smith

I need to read that book! Happy Friday!
My first line is from An Alaskan Christmas by Belle Calhoune: “Finn O’Rourke paced back and forth in terminal 27A of the Anchorage airport.”

An Alaskan Christmas….must be cold! Happy Friday!

  3. Rebecca Van Daniker

This sounds like a fun book and that is a fantastic first line that makes me want to know more. Happy Friday!

I’m featuring “Healing Love” by Jennifer Slattery on my blog today, but I’m currently reading “A Name Unknown” by Roseanna M. White.

Healing Love is on my TBR list–and I loved A Name Unknown. Amazing book!

    LOVE JULIE LESSMAN!

Since I’ll be finishing Pepper Basham’s The Thorn Healer before lunch, I’m sharing the first line from my current Chapter 22: “I hate leaving you like this.” Catherine stilled her movements from packing her trunk, her coral walking suit an elegant fit on her delicate frame. “Not when David and Alexander could help tend the sickness.”

Pepper Basham is an amazing author too! I haven’t read that book yet.

Heather Munro gazed down Victoria Street so long, she became another gray-suited statue along the Royal Mile.
From The Case of the Clobbered Cad by Debra E. Marvin!

Ooohhh! What a great opener. Now I want this book to find out why she’s almost crying in a ballroom.

My first line comes from Hold the Light by April McGowan.

“Unremarkable. Amber glanced out the steaming windowpane at the cityscape below her.”
